Coffee machine design flaw

Coffee machine design flaw: My coffee maker has a floating magnet in its water tank and a reed switch to detect low water levels. The problem is that the machine stops immediately when this sensor is triggered, even in the middle of making a coffee and with enough water left to complete the process.

The sensor could have been placed higher up and only block new brewing processes. They could have installed two sensors, one for a warning light and one for the emergency shutdown. Or made the front of the tank transparent.

But no, instead I pour away what feels like every fourth coffee, or I have to pull out the tank every single time to check manually. This annoys me more than it should.

I get that this sensor is probably a required safety feature and not a convenience feature, and I did not pay enough for a machine that values my convenience in addition to safety regulations. But the perfect solution (two sensors) would have only cost a couple of cents and less than 10 additional lines in the firmware.
